WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Herndon man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a heated domestic dispute that escalated into a reported assault.
At approximately 2:47 p.m. on April 24, 2025, Corporal J. Grimmette and Corporal T. Phillips of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a verbal domestic disturbance in Herndon.
Upon arrival, deputies separated the involved parties. One individual told deputies that tensions rose after he confronted Gabriel Vargas about alleged past behavior. According to the individual, Vargas reacted aggressively, storming into the room, getting in his face, and shouting, including making threatening remarks about “putting curses” on him.
The individual reported feeling fearful for his safety, claiming he had asked Vargas multiple times to back away. He said Vargas refused until another person intervened to separate them.
After taking statements at the scene, officers reported that Vargas refused to comment on the incident. He was subsequently placed under arrest for domestic assault and transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
