SISSONVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities responded to the scene of the Sissonville Dollar General on Monday regarding a vehicle accident and reports of a customer trapped inside the store.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office reports that, on Monday, May 15, 2023, at just before 2:30 p.m., Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputy, Sergeant A.J. Miller was dispatched to a crash at Dollar General, 7797 Sissonville Drive. Metro 911 Dispatchers had received reports that a vehicle had driven into the establishment and that a customer was potentially trapped.
Sergeant Miller arrived at the scene of the incident to discover a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck which had been driven partially inside the store through the exterior wall by a 74-year-old male from Sissonville.
The vehicle is reported to have come through the southwest exterior wall after it was suggested that the driver’s foot had slipped from the brake pedal and hit the accelerator while attempting to park.
A 74-year-old female customer from the Sissonville area who was shopping inside the store at the time of the accident became trapped beneath shelving and fallen debris. The customer was able to get to safety, but she was later transported to CAMC General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, was not found to be under the influence at the time of the crash. However, the incident is currently being investigated as a case of careless/reckless driving. The Dollar General location closed to the public for an undetermined time following the accident to allow for the assessment of damages.
