BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Boone County man is under investigation following an animal cruelty complaint reported earlier this month.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded on Jan. 17, 2026, to a report of suspected animal cruelty at a residence along Big Branch Road in Danville.
Upon arrival, the responding officer made contact with the resident, identified as Robert McNeely, who was present in the driveway and escorted the deputy onto the property. While on scene, the officer observed a medium-sized Jack Russell–type dog tethered to a fixed post with a metal chain.
Authorities reported the chain appeared to be embedded deeply into the dog’s neck, causing visible injuries. The condition of the animal was described as consistent with prolonged tethering and neglect.
The report states the findings were based on direct observation and investigation at the scene. The incident occurred in Boone County, and the case remains under investigation by local authorities.
