GRANDVIEW, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A potentially tragic incident at Grandview Park ended safely Tuesday thanks to the quick action of Raleigh County sheriff’s deputies, according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Frank Priddy said that on Jan. 6, 2025, Cpl. J.M. Hensley and Cpl. J.T. Howard were dispatched to the overlook area of Grandview Park after receiving a report of a person attempting to jump from the cliff face.
Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the individual and were able to calmly talk them out of jumping.
Officials said the deputies provided the person with appropriate resources at the scene. The individual was then transported by emergency medical services for further evaluation and care.
Sheriff Priddy, along with Chief Deputy Frankie Shelton, publicly commended Cpl. Hensley and Cpl. Howard for their professionalism, compassion, and swift response, noting that their actions were instrumental in ensuring the individual’s safety and connecting them with needed help.
The sheriff’s office also reminded the public that help is available for anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts or emotional distress. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day by dialing 988.
