GLEN FORK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities contacted Adult Protective Services after a deputy reportedly found a bedridden woman hungry and unable to care for herself inside a cluttered, insect-infested Wyoming County home.
According to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, Sgt. Tyler Sizemore received a report of possible elder abuse in the Glen Fork area at approximately 1 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2026.
Sizemore contacted the Adult Protective Services hotline and submitted an initial referral before traveling to the residence.
After receiving permission to enter the home, the deputy reportedly found piles of belongings and trash throughout the residence. He also observed numerous small brown cockroaches crawling in the area.
The woman was lying on her back in what appeared to be a hospital bed. She reportedly told Sizemore that severe knee problems prevented her from walking or getting out of bed without assistance.
When asked if she was okay, the woman said she was very hungry and had not eaten since the previous day because she could not leave the bed to get food. The deputy searched the home and provided her with something to eat.
The woman alleged that her granddaughter had left her alone in the bed for more than 24 hours. She also reportedly asked the deputy several times not to take action against her granddaughter, claiming she feared being physically assaulted when the granddaughter returned.
After confirming that the woman had allegedly been left without a way to care for herself, Sizemore contacted Adult Protective Services again and filed a second referral concerning her condition and the state of the home.
The report did not indicate whether criminal charges had been filed. The matter remained under investigation.
