Disaster declaration issued for April 11 flooding in Kanawha County

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – It was announced this week that a FEMA Disaster Declaration was signed by President Joe Biden for the April 11, 2024, flooding in Kanawha County. The declaration will purportedly allow for assistance opportunities for individuals impacted by the flooding the those who meeting FEMA guidelines.

Individuals may utilize the Dunbar Recreation Centers Disaster Recovery Center located at 2601 Fairlawn Avenue to receive assistance from FEMA officials beginning on Friday, July 5, 2024, through July 13, 2024, between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday through Saturday.

“The Kanawha County Commission would like to thank Governor Jim Justice for requesting the Disaster Declaration on behalf of Kanawha County. Without our State and Federal Delegation partners, Senator Joe Manchin, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, and Congresswoman Carol Miller, this Disaster Declaration would not have been reached,” said the Kanawha County Commission.

“Additionally, the Commission appreciates the dedication and hard work from our Emergence Management, County Planning, and Commission staff whose efforts helped tremendously throughout the days and weeks following the flooding. The Kanawha County Commission understood the devastation endured by the citizens affected by the flooding and worked tirelessly with State and Federal Delegations to ensure they would receive the help they needed.”

The commission additionally expressed intentions to work alongside state officials and the Emergency Management Division to arrange site visits and provide direct information for those impacted by the April 11 flooding.

“The Kanawha County Commission will work with State officials to organize site visits for those affected by the flood to access appropriate information regarding applying for assistance,” the commission said. “We will work with the State Emergency Management Division to provide direct information to those affected by the flood.”
