BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS)– A distinguished alumnus of Bluefield State College died.
Alumnus William B. Robertson, 88, died on Monday.
Bluefield State College’s library was renamed the William Bernard Robertson library after Robertson two years ago because of his education and public service career. He received both bachelor’s in secondary education in 1954 and a bachelor’s in elementary education from Bluefield State in 1956.
BSC President, Robin Capehart, shared a message on the Bluefield State College website.
“He dearly loved his alma mater and often shared how, when he was a student here, BSC President Henry Lake Dickason and faculty members like Othello Harris-Jefferson made a profound impact upon his life,” said Capehart.
Robertson helped many people during his life include Camp Virginia Jaycee, which served over 42,000 individuals with special needs for four decades. He also spent time as a teacher in Tampa, Florida, teaching inner-city students. Every year, he would bring groups of students from Sligh Middle School in Tampa to visit BSC and encourage them to attend college.
“The Bluefield State College family has lost a true gentleman,” said Capehart.
