WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A driver allegedly fled a traffic stop on Route 97 and threw a bag of suspected fentanyl from her SUV before stopping on Rocky Ridge Road.
According to a criminal complaint, a deputy attempted to stop the eastbound SUV after noticing its registration had expired in May 2026. The driver accelerated, turned onto Rocky Ridge Road and continued driving after the deputy activated emergency lights and a siren.
During the pursuit, the deputy saw a black bag thrown from the passenger-side window, the complaint states. The SUV eventually stopped, and the driver, identified as Caritta Lane, was arrested.
The deputy recovered the bag and reported finding a clear baggie containing a white powder. Lane allegedly said the substance was fentanyl and admitted throwing the bag from the vehicle.
After being read her Miranda rights, Lane told the deputy she fled because her sandal became stuck beneath the gas pedal and she thought she was pressing the brake, according to the complaint.
A license check showed Lane’s driving privileges were suspended and that she had two prior driving-while-suspended convictions, dated February 24, 2025, and August 4, 2026.
The suspected fentanyl will be sent to the West Virginia State Police forensic laboratory for testing. The complaint excerpt does not list the charges filed.
