PAX, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A driver is on the run after leading West Virginia State Police on a pursuit along Interstate 77 Thursday afternoon that ended in a crash.
According to the West Virginia State Police Turnpike, troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop at approximately 3:13 p.m. on February 26, 2026.
The vehicle was traveling southbound on Interstate 77 near the 56-mile marker when troopers observed traffic violations.
Police said the driver failed to yield and continued southbound on I-77 before becoming involved in a motor vehicle crash near the 51-mile marker.
The unidentified suspect then fled the crash scene on foot toward Maple Fork Road in Raleigh County.
During a search of the area, investigators learned the suspect may have received a ride from an unknown individual and was later dropped off in the Mount Hope area of Fayette County.
Authorities said the suspect fled on foot again after being dropped off.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The suspect has not been identified or apprehended.
The investigation remains ongoing.
