AUGUSTA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – New details have emerged regarding a head-on collision on Route 50 which led to the death of one driver on Friday.
According to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, on January 5, 2024 at about 10:30am, Hampshire County 911 received a call of a reported head-on collision on Northwestern Pike (U.S. Rt. 50) near the intersection of Dunkard Church Road in Augusta.
It has been reported that a 2015 Toyota Truck being driven by Brian Andrus – age 24, of Lock Haven, PA – was traveling east on Route 50 and crossed the center line, colliding with a 2016 Dodge Ram being driven by Kathleen Thorne – age 77 of Augusta, WV.
Thorne is believed to have made attempts to avoid the Toyota truck, but was unable to do so. Thorne was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
James Voglesang, a passenger in the Dodge Ram involved, was transported to Winchester Medical Center. Brian Andrus was transported to Hampshire Memorial Hospital.
Lt. Stuart Davis of the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office is continuing an investigation of the crash and indicates that charges are likely be forthcoming against Brian Andrus once all evidence has been obtained and reviewed in its entirety.
Several Hampshire County Fire and EMS agencies responded to the crash scene. Medical Examiner Chris Guynn also responded to conduct a death investigation.
