MASON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Walmart employee was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly attacking co-workers and threatening a deputy during a chaotic incident at the store on Mallard Lane.
At around 5:00 a.m. on May 26, 2025, Deputy C. Gibbs with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a worker becoming violent inside the store. When Gibbs arrived, he found a male suspect in the produce section behaving aggressively and shoving a cart into a fellow associate.
Deputy Gibbs gave verbal commands for the man to stop and get on the ground. Instead, the suspect pushed a cart toward the deputy and tried to attack another associate. Gibbs then took the man to the ground, where he continued to resist and kick, striking both the deputy and an EMS worker, A. Ohlinger.
The suspect was eventually subdued, handcuffed, and taken into custody. He was identified as Nate David Bateman.
While being transported to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Bateman allegedly threatened Deputy Gibbs, stating, “I’m going to cut your throat open and watch your blood.”
Bateman was arrested for intimidation of a public official and is currently being held at Western Regional Jail.
No serious injuries were reported, but the investigation is ongoing.
