FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Efforts are underway to create a special West Virginia license plate dedicated to Bridge Day, but organizers say public support is required before the project can move forward.
In partnership with the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, the Fayette County Community Foundation is working with the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles to establish a Bridge Day specialty plate.
At least 100 paid applications must be submitted by Aug. 3, 2026, for the DMV to begin the design and approval process.
Interested vehicle owners must print and complete an application and submit it with a $91.50 check made payable to the Fayette County Community Foundation.
Applications may be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce or mailed to FCCF-BD, 310 W. Oyler Ave., Oak Hill, WV 25901. Personalized plate number requests are not available for this specialty plate.
Organizers have already submitted initial design concepts to the DMV. Once the required number of applications is reached, the DMV will begin developing a final plate design that meets state requirements.
The design, approval, and production process could take 18 to 24 months, and printing of the first batch of plates may take 18 months or longer.
The $91.50 application fee covers the cost of the license plate and vehicle registration for the year, or portion of the year, the plate is issued. Until the Bridge Day plate is printed and distributed, participants will continue renewing their vehicle registration as usual.
Once issued, all specialty plates expire annually on July 1. Future renewals will cost $65 per year, payable to the DMV.
Only vehicles with Class A plates that are titled in West Virginia are eligible. Participants are asked to notify organizers if their personal or vehicle information changes before plates are issued so the DMV application can be updated.
If the minimum number of applications is not met by the deadline, the project will be discontinued and all application fees will be refunded by check.
