CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Kanawha County Commission announced this week that Canvassing for the 2024 General Election is now complete for Kanawha County.
Members of the Kanawha County Commission, acting as the Board of Canvassers for the County, began the Canvass of the November 5, 2024, General Election on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 7:00am.
In this capacity, commissioners were responsible for overseeing the General Election Canvassing for all races on the County, State, and Congressional levels, as well as the Dunbar Municipal Race.
The Election Canvass was declared complete for Kanawha County on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 2:38pm.
“The ballots that could be counted by State Code were tabulated and new cumulative totals for Election Results were run,” said the Kanawha County Commission. “There were no significant changes to any race totals as a result of the Canvass.”
The required three-percent by-hand count got underway at 7:00am on Tuesday as well, continuing until 6:06pm. Kanawha County Commissioners declared the results of the General Election as a whole at 6:10pm on Tuesday.
The results of the races are expected to be certified in the coming days, as certification of races may only occur 48 hours after all other counties in the state have completed Canvassing procedures and declared election results. The Kanawha County Commission has indicated that a meeting for the announcement of a certification date for Election results will be announced soon.
“Our Election workers went above and beyond this year, staying up all night long on Election night to ensure every ballot was counted,” said Kanawha County Clerk, Vera McCormick. “I can’t thank each and every one of them enough. I take pride in ensuring that our Elections are run with integrity and accuracy.”
