PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wood County educator was arrested Wednesday on charges pertaining to the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.
The Parkersburg Police Department reports that on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, Nathan D. Cunningham – 33 years old of Parkersburg, WV – was arrested on one felony county of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or Person in Position of Trust.
Cunningham is alleged to have engaged in inappropriate behavior and physical contact with a juvenile acquaintance under the age of 14, according to authorities with the department. This inappropriate behavior is reported to have occurred between March 2021 and March 2023.
The exact nature of the relationship of the subject to the victim has not been disclosed, and it is unclear at the time of writing whether Cunningham’s position as an educator played a role in his conduct.
Cunningham is employed as a teacher at Emerson Elementary School in Wood County, and his information remains listed within the “staff” section of the school’s website.
During a Tuesday, March 28, 2023, meeting of the Wood County Board of Education, an agenda item was approved to place Cunningham on paid suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
Cunningham was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court where he posted bond and was subsequently released.
