The move comes in direct response to the recent passage of former President Donald Trump’s sweeping “Big Beautiful Bill,” which Musk has strongly criticized as fiscally irresponsible. The bill, which adds an estimated $3–5 trillion to the national debt, was a tipping point for Musk, who called it “the final straw.”
“We need a new path,” Musk posted on X, the platform he owns. “The America Party is formed today. It’s time to take back our country from the uniparty.”
A Direct Challenge to the Two-Party System
Musk, once considered a supporter of many Republican policies, has recently grown more vocal in his dissatisfaction with both major parties, labeling them a “uniparty” focused on power over people. The America Party, he says, will be a center-right alternative emphasizing:

Political observers say this could make the America Party a kingmaker if it can peel off voters from both sides. While the party has not yet registered with the Federal Election Commission, filings are expected soon.

Former President Trump called the idea “ridiculous” and “a distraction,” while Musk allies, including some former members of the Forward Party and Libertarians, have expressed interest in collaborating.
