(LOOTPRESS) – Millions of users across the country experienced problems accessing Facebook and Instagram on Friday morning as a widespread outage affected Meta’s social media platforms.
According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, more than 93,000 users had reported issues with Facebook shortly before 9:45 a.m. Eastern Time on June 12. Users reported problems loading the platform, accessing accounts, and using various features.
Facebook Messenger and Instagram also appeared to be experiencing service disruptions. However, Downdetector’s status pages for those platforms were unavailable as of 10 a.m. ET, displaying a 404 error message.
Social media users quickly took to other platforms to report the outage and confirm that the issues were widespread.
As of Friday morning, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, had not publicly commented on the cause of the outage or provided a timeline for when services would be fully restored.
The outage impacted thousands of users and marked one of the largest reported disruptions for Meta’s platforms in recent months.
