HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Hinton woman is under scrutiny after allegedly misusing the emergency 911 line on Wednesday morning, prompting law enforcement response to a situation that turned out to be unfounded.
According to dispatchers at the Summers County 911 Center, Molly Fix-Smith placed two separate emergency calls, claiming she was being “held against her will” at her mother’s home on 2nd Avenue. She also reported that intruders had broken into the home and were committing theft.
However, when West Virginia State Police arrived on the scene, they found Fix-Smith freely moving around outside the residence, contradicting her claims of being restrained.
When questioned, Fix-Smith reiterated that she was being held against her will, later clarifying that her mother was allegedly preventing her from seeing her children. Troopers noted this did not meet the standard for an emergency or criminal matter.
The mother told officers her daughter had been acting erratically for several days, possibly due to narcotic use, and had been hallucinating and speaking to imaginary people. She confirmed there was no break-in or theft at the residence.
Fix-Smith was charged with making a false report of an emergency.
