FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fayette County’s three high schools are set to host 2023 graduation ceremonies this Saturday but predicted inclement weather has resulted in some changes for both Meadow Bridge and Oak Hill High School.
Oak Hill High School administrators announced today that they are moving their graduation ceremony to 7:30 PM Saturday evening at John P. Duda Stadium as current weather forecasts show the rainy weather clearing out later in the evening. Graduates are now asked to report at 6:15 PM.
The following statement was posted to the Oak Hill High School Facebook page Friday:
“Due to the forecast, we have made the difficult decision to move our graduation ceremony to 7:30 tomorrow, Saturday, May 20. We know that this may cause an inconvenience to some, but we believe that the weather will be some better at 7:30.”
Meadow Bridge High School’s graduation ceremony is still scheduled to be held at 10 AM, but instead of outside at Frank Arritt Stadium, the ceremony will be held inside the old Meadow Bridge High School gymnasium.
Midland Trail High School administrators have announced that they are watching Saturday’s forecast closely, but plans for an outdoor graduation are currently in place. Graduation is scheduled for 1:30 PM at Roger Eades Stadium in Hico.
Midland Trail High School posted the following update to its Facebook page Friday evening:
“We are monitoring the weather forecast for graduation tomorrow. We will proceed with graduation outside, however, if it is storming during time of graduation we will postpone the ceremony until the precipitation minimizes to a light rain or drizzle. Please plan accordingly. We will keep everyone aware of decisions as we monitor the situation.”
LOOTPRESS will provide updates to this story if any further changes are made.
