SUMMERSVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County man has drowned at Summersville Lake.
According to Nicholas County deputies, on Monday, August 30, 2021, Robert Johnston, 59, of Paige, was fishing in the Slamon Run area of Summersville Lake when he got into the water and was unable to get back out. Â By the time help arrived, Johnston had already disappeared under the water. Â After an extensive search by dive team members, Summersville Fire Department, and Kesslers Cross Lanes Fire Department, Johnston was unable to be located.
Eventually, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 31, 2021, Mr. Johnston’s body was found, and he was later pronounced deceased.
The search for Mr. Johnston was a team effort by Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department, Summersville Fire Department, Kesslers Cross Lanes Fire Department, Jan Care Ambulance, RediCare Ambulance, WV DNR, Dive Team Members, and Air Evac.
The investigation is still ongoing; however, foul play is not suspected.
