WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning at the intersection of West Virginia Route 47 and Mound Street in Wood County.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department and WVU-Camden Clark Ambulance Service, responded to the scene at approximately 6:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, following reports of a motor vehicle crash with injuries and possible entrapment.
The crash involved a Jeep Cherokee and a Ford Super Duty utility truck.
Investigators said Caleb Torres, 45, of Red House, was traveling westbound on WV 47 at the Mound Street and Interstate 77 southbound entrance/exit when a Jeep Cherokee driven by Tristan Sampson, 24, of Palestine, attempted to turn left onto the southbound entrance ramp to I-77. Sampson reportedly failed to yield and was struck by the westbound truck.
Cherokee Wilkey, 45, of Elizabeth, who was a front-seat passenger in the Jeep, had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews.
Sampson and Wilkey were transported to WVU-Camden Clark Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Torres and his passenger, Martin Ramsey, 30, of Ansted, were evaluated at the scene by paramedics and released.
Jerry’s and Pifer’s Towing Services removed the vehicles from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
