LOOKOUT, WV (LOOTPRESS)— A Fayette County man was arrested early Saturday morning after deputies say he threatened family members with a knife, refused officers’ commands, and engaged in a tense standoff before being subdued with multiple Taser deployments.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched around 5:42 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2025, to a home on Foster Hill Road after 911 reported a disturbance that was later reclassified as a domestic incident. Dispatchers also warned responding units that the man involved was off his prescribed psychological medications, had allegedly flushed them, and appeared heavily intoxicated.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Department, along with officers from the Fayetteville and Ansted police departments, arrived around 5:58 a.m. and made contact with two individuals who reported that the suspect—identified only as Hallie Hanshaw—had been threatening to stab them and slit their throats. They also stated he was carrying a knife on his hip.
Armed, Agitated, and Making Threats
Deputies were told the suspect had locked himself inside a bedroom. When officers approached the door, the man responded aggressively, initially refusing to come out and challenging officers to forcibly enter.
“Kick it in and see what happens,” he reportedly shouted.
When he eventually cracked the door open, deputies attempted to deescalate the situation. The suspect continued making violent threats, telling officers he was “willing to die” and knew “where to stick a knife” to kill someone.
He also pointed to an officer’s Taser, saying it “wouldn’t put him down” and threatened to knock an officer’s glasses off his face.
Standoff Escalates, Tasers Deployed
The situation escalated when the suspect grabbed the handle of his knife and made an aggressive motion toward officers. One officer deployed a Taser twice, but it had little effect as the suspect attempted to tear out the probes.
A second deputy then fired his Taser, striking the man in the lower abdomen and leg. This deployment was effective, and the suspect fell to the ground. When he reached again toward the knife, a second five-second charge was administered to incapacitate him long enough for officers to safely detain him.
Officers then removed the knife, secured the weapon, and placed the suspect in restraints.
Medical Check and Arrest
EMS evaluated the man and found his vital signs mostly normal. Deputies transported him to Plateau Medical Center for medical clearance before he was taken to Southern Regional Jail.
No officers were injured. The suspect suffered only a minor abrasion to his forehead.
Facing Multiple Charges
The man faces a series of charges, including:
-
Domestic Battery
-
Domestic Assault
-
Obstructing an Officer
-
Two counts of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
