FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fayette County Sheriff Jess McMullen and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department are reminding residents to take precautions while trick-or-treating this Halloween.
The department is encouraging parents, children, and motorists to follow several safety recommendations to help prevent accidents and ensure a safe evening.
Officials recommend that children wear bright or reflective clothing and carry flashlights or glow sticks to remain visible after dark. Trick-or-treaters should use crosswalks when available, look both ways before crossing streets, and avoid running between parked vehicles.
Young children should always be accompanied by a trusted adult, while older children are encouraged to travel in groups and follow a planned route.
Parents are also advised to inspect Halloween candy before allowing children to eat it. Any treats that appear opened, damaged, or tampered with should be discarded.
Motorists are urged to slow down and remain alert for pedestrians, particularly in residential neighborhoods and near intersections where children may be crossing streets.
The department also recommends staying on well-lit streets, using sidewalks whenever possible, and reminding children never to enter a stranger’s home or vehicle.
Deputies will be out serving the community throughout Halloween, and the department is asking residents to remain cautious and look out for one another.
Sheriff McMullen and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department wish residents a safe and enjoyable Halloween.
