FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has officially opened the application process for new deputy sheriffs, offering competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for advancement and specialization within the force. Applications will be accepted starting Friday, May 2, 2025, with a firm deadline of 4:00 p.m. on May 30, 2025.
The department is seeking individuals who are committed to serving and protecting the community with integrity and professionalism. Applicants must meet a set of minimum qualifications, including being at least 18 years old, holding a high school diploma or GED, and successfully completing both a written Civil Service Exam and Physical Fitness Test. Candidates must also pass a thorough background investigation and possess basic computer and typing skills.

New deputies will receive a starting salary of $49,720, which increases to $50,920 after the first year. The department offers automatic promotions—including a $1,500 raise at the two-year mark (Deputy First Class) and an $1,800 raise after four years (Corporal).

Applications can be picked up at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, the Fayette County Clerk’s Office, or downloaded from Indeed.com. Completed applications must be submitted in person to the County Clerk’s Office by the May 30 deadline.
The mandatory entrance test is scheduled for June 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the old Rosedale Elementary School.
