FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Department of Transportation has awarded the Town of Fayetteville a $325,000 Transportation Alternative grant to construct a new Second Avenue Pedestrian Bridge.
The project comes after the loss of the previous vehicular bridge, which prompted local residents and city officials to advocate for a safe and reliable replacement connection.
According to the WVDOT, the new bridge will be designed specifically for pedestrians, restoring an important link for the community while improving ADA accessibility and enhancing residents’ daily quality of life.
State transportation officials said the project was developed through collaboration between community members and planners to create a solution tailored to Fayetteville’s needs.
The WVDOT also noted that coordination has taken place with environmental experts to ensure construction of the bridge is conducted in a manner that protects local bat populations and the surrounding ecosystem.
Additional updates on the project are expected as planning and construction move forward.
