MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – To honor her friend and colleague, West Virginia University School of Nursing alumna Kathy Lyons has established the Constance Ball Jordan Memorial Nursing Scholarship.
According to WVU Nursing, the $50,000 endowed fund, generously provided by Kathy and Zachary Lyons, will be awarded to undergraduate nursing students who demonstrate financial need.
First preference will be given to Garrett County, Maryland residents or any West Virginia resident.
“This gift is made to honor a dear friend and work colleague,” Kathy shared. “We met while working at the University of Kentucky hospital. We discovered we both graduated from the WVU School of Nursing although we didn’t know each other when we were attending school because we graduated in different years.”
Dr. Tara Hulsey, Dean and E. Jane Martin Endowed Professor, said scholarships like the Constance Ball Jordan Memorial Nursing Scholarship are essential in supporting students with financial need.
“Scholarships make a tremendous difference in the lives of our nursing students,” Hulsey said. “We are incredibly grateful for the support and generosity of our alumni who help support the next generation of nurses.”
This gift was awarded via the WVU Foundation, the nonprofit organization that receives and administers private donations on behalf of the University.
