MOUNT LOOKOUT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Wilderness Fire Department is urging motorists to use extreme caution at the intersection of U.S. Route 19 and Mount Lookout Road following multiple reports of drivers running red lights.
According to the department, several incidents involving motorists failing to stop at red lights have recently been reported at the intersection.
Officials said one firefighter narrowly avoided being struck by a vehicle just minutes before the warning was issued.
The fire department is reminding drivers to remain alert when traveling through the area and to obey all traffic signals.
Officials also advised motorists to look both ways before proceeding through the intersection, even when they have a green light.
“Use extreme caution at the US 19 and Mt Lookout Rd intersection,” the department said in a post on Facebook.
“There have been multiple reports of drivers running through the red lights, and one of our firefighters was almost hit a few minutes ago. If the light is green, look both ways before crossing.”
No injuries were reported, but officials are encouraging drivers to remain vigilant to help prevent a serious crash.
