CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for much of West Virginia as slow-moving thunderstorms bring the potential for heavy downpours and flash flooding through Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, an upper-level disturbance moving in from the west is expected to increase storm development on Tuesday, raising the risk for strong to severe thunderstorms across the region. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and prepare for possible flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Storm activity is expected to continue into Wednesday, even as the upper-level system begins to move out. Scattered afternoon and evening storms could still produce heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
A stronger cold front is forecast to sweep through the area on Thursday, bringing another round of widespread showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be severe. Gusty winds, hail, and heavy rainfall are possible with these storms.
Relief is in sight, however, as drier and more stable conditions are expected to return by Friday and continue into the weekend, thanks to high pressure building behind the departing cold front.
Residents are advised to:
-
Monitor local forecasts and alerts.
-
Avoid flooded roadways.
-
Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
Stay tuned to local authorities and weather services for the latest updates as conditions evolve.
