WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – A Flood Watch alert has been issued for many areas throughout West Virginia as a result of ongoing wind and rainstorms.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch will be in effect throughout parts of the state beginning at 10:00am and continuing until 8:00pm.
Impacted areas include portions of northeast West Virginia, including the following counties, in southeast West Virginia, Southeast Fayette, Southeast Webster and Southeast Nicholas.
Anticipated impact may include excessive runoff may result creeks, streams, and other low-lying, flood-prone locations.
Reports indicate that 1.5 to 3 inches of rain can be expect combine with melting snow, and heavy rain may fall on a deep primed snowpack leading to the melt increasing. Flows in streams and rivers may increase quickly and reach critical levels.
Residents have been encouraged to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
