WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Southern West Virginia could see a chance of winter weather this weekend as forecasters monitor a developing coastal storm system, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Charleston say a coastal system expected to develop late this week could bring some snow to eastern portions of the region beginning Friday and continuing into the weekend.

However, forecasters note that the bulk of the precipitation associated with this system is currently projected to remain well to the southeast, primarily impacting parts of Virginia and the Carolinas.
At this time, the probability of receiving 2 inches or more of snow remains below 50 percent for southeast West Virginia and southwest Virginia.
The potential for snow accumulations decreases farther north and west across the region.
The National Weather Service office in Blacksburg reports that a low-pressure system is forecast to intensify along the North Carolina coast Friday into Saturday.
While this developing winter storm could bring accumulating snow to portions of the Mid-Atlantic, forecasters emphasize that the exact track of the storm remains uncertain.

Small shifts in the storm’s path could result in significant differences in snowfall amounts.
Officials advise residents to continue monitoring forecasts as confidence in the storm’s track and potential impacts improves. Additional updates are expected as the weekend approaches.
