MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A former police chief and his son were killed in a head-on collision on Thursday, April 10, along West Virginia State Route 16 near Squire.
According to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, Richard Lee Dillon Sr., former police chief of War, and his son, Richard Lee Dillon Jr., both died at the scene after a pickup truck struck their vehicle.
A third passenger, a woman, sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and the Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
Sheriff James Muncy confirmed to LOOTPRESS that the driver of the pickup, Brandon Scott Dunford, was allegedly speeding and attempted to pass in a no-passing zone at the time of the collision.
