RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A retrospective exhibit showcasing the editorial cartoons of longtime West Virginia journalist Tom Bone III will be on display at three locations across southern West Virginia starting this summer.
Titled “Drawing Conclusions,” the exhibit features a selection of Bone’s work from a collection of more than 1,100 editorial cartoons created over nearly three decades. The first showing will be held at the Bea Paine Gallery in downtown Bluefield from July 14 through August 28, with a public reception scheduled for July 14 at 6 p.m.
Following the Bluefield exhibit, the collection will be displayed in the lobby of Beckley Newspapers at 801 North Kanawha Street from September 16 to October 24. The final stop will be at the Alexander Fine Arts Center at Concord University in October 2026.
Bone’s editorial cartoons cover a range of topics including state and national politics, social and moral issues, American holidays, and weather commentary. He contributed weekly cartoons to The Princeton Times from 1989 to 2018, earning first place honors in the small-paper division of the West Virginia Press Association‘s annual competition in 1999 and 2018.
A native of Bluefield who grew up in Monroe County, Bone graduated from Concord College (now University) and earned a master’s degree from Marshall University. He served as Concord’s public information director from 1979 to 1999 and later worked as a sportswriter and columnist for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph until 2019.
Bone remains active in the community, working part-time in the sports departments of the Bluefield and Beckley newspapers, participating in summer Shakespeare productions, announcing Concord University football and basketball games, and editing a bimonthly newsletter for Concord United Methodist Church.
