Camp Mariposa Southern WV

PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A special fundraiser supporting Camp Mariposa Southern WV is underway, with all proceeds going toward the camp’s mission of providing a year-round, weekend retreat for children affected by the substance use of a loved one. The fundraiser features two exclusive Camp Mariposa-themed candles created by CSC Candle Bakery in Princeton, WV. These beautifully crafted candles—one in a comforting s’mores scent and the other in a fresh pine scent—are perfect for gift-giving or personal enjoyment, all while supporting a cause that impacts children in Southern West Virginia.

Each candle is priced at $26, and both are decorated with charming, camp-themed elements. The sale of these candles will run through March 31, 2025. Candles can be purchased by contacting the Camp Mariposa Director, Eden Scruggs, at eden.scruggs@strongcommunities.org.

Camp Mariposa offers children a safe and nurturing space to unplug from daily pressures and enjoy time away from the distractions of technology and everyday life. Through a combination of fun activities, lessons, and emotional support, the camp empowers children with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges, cope with stress, and build resilience.

The camp is completely free to the families it serves and offers respite care for custodial parents and guardians. With substance use affecting many families in Southern WV, Camp Mariposa is a vital resource for children who are often burdened with complex emotional and social challenges.

“We’re so grateful for the support from CSC Candle Bakery and our local community,” said Eden Scruggs, Director of Camp Mariposa. “These candles are a beautiful way for people to contribute to a cause that’s making a real difference in the lives of children who need it the most. By purchasing one, you’re not just getting a great candle—you’re directly supporting a program that offers kids the chance to be kids again and gives them the hope and tools to build a brighter future.”

CSC Candle Bakery has generously partnered with Camp Mariposa Southern WV to create these unique candles, adding a personal touch to the fundraiser. The candles’ s’mores and pine scents were chosen to evoke the spirit of summer camp, with the scent of roasted marshmallows and the fresh air of the outdoors.
