Beckley girls basketball coach Brian Nabors rescinded his resignation and had that motion approved at a board meeting Tuesday night in Beckley.
Nabors politely declined to discuss what led to his initial resignation and when he’ll be back on the sidelines coaching but does anticipate being involved with his team in the meantime.
His decision to rescind his resignation comes after he initially left the team last week. Support for the coach, who took over the program in 2015, was on display Tuesday as the board meeting was packed with members of the Beckley girls basketball team as well as other supporters of Nabors’ within the community.
“I’m just happy to be back with my team,” Nabors said Tuesday during a phone call with Lootpress. “I can’t thank my team enough, the City of Beckley and the people for their support. The support tonight was amazing and I think that’s what needs to be said. I want to thank my wife and my family for all the support they’ve provided during this experience as well.”
Assistant coaches Gene Nabors and Kevin “Radar” Henry coached the team to a 2-0 mark during Nabors’ absence.
Nabors has led the Flying Eagles to three state tournament appearances in eight seasons including a state semifinal berth in 2020 while also producing three first-team all-state players.
