Logan – After a poor offensive showing in a loss against Spring Valley on Wednesday Class AA No. 1 Wyoming East got back on track Saturday, defeating No. 4 St. Marys 69-47 in the Wildcat Classic at Logan.
The game, a rematch of last year’s state semifinal, turned into a blowout in the third quarter where the Lady Warrior, leading 27-20 at the half, outscored St. Marys 23-8 to built a 50-28 advantage. A 9-0 East run to open the fourth cemented the game.
Cadee Blackburn (21 points) and Maddie Clark (18 points) led the Lady Warriors, rebounding from poor showings against Spring Valley where they scored one and six points, respectively
Kayley Bane also added 12 points for East in the win. Addie Davis scored 19 for St. Marys in the loss.
The victory was also the 200th in Wyoming East coach Angie Boninsegna’s career as a head coach, believed to be the most in school history. In her 12th season at the helm, the former Pineville player has helped guide the program to five state championship games, winning it all in 2016 and ’21.
East (8-1) will travel to No. 3 Mingo Central on Wednesday.
