Charleston – Clinging to a five-point lead early in the fourth, Cabell Midland’s Jazmyn Wheeler scored eight points in the final quarter to lead the Knights past Capital 48-35 Thursday night at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Wheeler was a force all night for Cabell Midland, finishing with a game-high 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds.
She was the only Knight to score in double figures though not much scoring was necessary.
The Cougars were cold most of the night, connecting on just two of their 17 field goals in the first half and finishing with a 10 of 40 mark. Talayah Boxley led Capital with 12 points in the loss while Natalyia Sayles grabbed 10 rebounds. Mya Toombs added 10 points.
Cabell Midland advances to the Class AAAA semifinals where it will play rival No. 1 Huntington on Friday at 5:30.
