Charleston – Gilmer County’s relentless pressure generated 30 Webster County turnovers Thursday night as the Titans defeated the Highlanders 61-44, returning to the Class A state championship game for the first time since they won it all in 2016.
After the Highlanders cut a 12-point deficit to seven three minutes into the third quarter the Titans ripped a 13-0 run and never saw their lead fall below 13 points the rest of the way.
Taylor McHenry led the charge for the Titans with 16 points while Emma Taylor added 12 and Malaysia Morgan 11.
Holly Perrine led Webster with 11 points in the loss while all-stater Sydney Baird, who drew double and at times triple teams scored nine points.
Gilmer County will play Cameron on Saturday at 10 a.m. for the Class A championship.
