Charleston – No. 1 Gilmer County forced 42 turnovers Tuesday evening in the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, beating No. 8 Union 69-27 and advancing to Thursday’s Class A semifinals.
The defense of the Titans was the story of the evening as they held Union scoreless in the opening quarter and to 23 percent shooting from the floor in total.
Carrah Ferguson led the way for Gilmer with 13 points while Trinity Bancroft added 12 and Emma Taylor 10.
Bailey Evans and Olivia Bomboy scored four each for Union in the loss.
Gilmer advances to the semifinal game where it will play the winner of Webster County-Doddridge on Thursday.
