Charleston – No. 4 Petersburg outscored No. 5 Frankfort 13-3 in the third quarter, turning an 18-16 halftime lead into a 31-19 advantage heading into the fourth, never looking back.
The end result was a 47-41 Petersburg win at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Tuesday afternoon that sent the Vikings to the Class AA semifinals for the second straight year.
Aiding the Vikings’ effort to limit the Falcons’ output on offense was their ability to force turnovers. Frankfort finished the game with 27 turnovers and shot just 31 percent from the floor (13 for 41).
Braylee Corbin led the Vikings with 13 points while Kennedy Kaposy and MacKenzie Kitzmiller scored nine each.
Halley Smith (13), Arin Lease (11) and Tinsley Grove (10) all scored in double figures for Frankfort in the loss.
The Vikings improve to 21-4 and will play the winner of Parkersburg Catholic-Buffalo on Friday at 1 p.m.
Frankfort finishes the season with a 15-8 record.
