Charleston – Mary Ostrowksi Award winner Marley Washenitz had a stellar showing in Fairmont Senior’s opening game of the 2022 state tournament, pouring in 36 points and grabbing 11 rebound sin a 93-24 win over Sissonville Wednesday evening at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
With the performance Washenitz sits 39 points away from 2,000 for her career.
Three other Polar Bears also scored in double figures, paced by Laynie Beresford’s 18. Meredith Maier added 15 and Emily Starn 14.
Madison McCutcheon led Sissonville with eight point sin the loss.
Fairmont, the No. 1 seed, advances to the Class AAA semifinal for the second straight season where it will play the winner of Wednesday’s PikeView-Nitro game.
