Greenbrier East 64, James Monroe 35
FAIRLEA – Greenbrier East outscored James Monroe 19-3 in the third quarter and forced 37 turnovers to roll past the Mavericks 64-35 in the season opener for both teams.
Daisha Summers led the Spartans with 19 points, while Cadence Stewart added 17. Layla Pence grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for East.
Adyson Hines led James Monroe with 11 points and eight rebounds. Haley Hunnicutt scored nine for the Mavs.
Both teams are back in action Friday. East will host Mount Mission, while James Monroe travels to Oak Hill.

Brushfork – Bluefield used a 16-point fourth quarter to pull away and beat rival Graham, Va. 40-33 Tuesday night at the Brushfork Armory.
Beyonka Lee led the Beavers with 15 points while Ny’Asia Hanley added 11. Graham’s Elle Gunter led all scorers with 19 points.
Bluefield moves to 1-0 and will host Mount View on Friday.
