Greenbrier East 53, Nitro 37
Fairlea – In an early season battle of two of the top Class AAA girls teams, Greenbrier East used a strong defensive effort to beat Nitro 53-37 inside Spartan Gym.
Greenbrier East broke open a five-point game at halftime, outscoring the Wildcats 13-0 in the third period.
Mackenna McClure steadied the ship for the Spartans in the first half scoring 10 of her 12 points in the contest to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Kennedy Stewart added 12 points for East and had four assists and four steal. Ava Workman scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Hannah Fuller and Sandy Banton also scored eight points.

Bradshaw – Westside led by six points at the break and held on to defeat River View 48-47 Friday night.
Karsyn Paynter led all scorers for the Renegades (1-1) with 22 points and Sarah Lilly scored 18.
Chasity Kennedy had a double-double for the Raiders (1-1), scoring 17 points along with 13 rebounds and six steals.
Kaci Hatfield added 16 points, while Kaylee Blankenship scored eight points and had 10 steals. Baleigh Auville had five rebounds and five steals.

Ona – James Monroe struggled to overcome a slow start, falling 51-45 to St. Albans Friday night in its opener at the Cabell Midland tournament.
The Mavericks trailed 20-6 after a quarter but rallied in the fourth to outscore the Red Dragons 16-7 in the final frame.
Mya Dunlap led the Lady Mavs with 16 points in the loss.
