Delbarton – It’s been three years since Summers County head coach Chad Meador has been able to step on the court at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
A Covid cancellation in 2020 and a loss in the regional final at Mingo Central last season made the memory of playing in Charleston a faint one.
That’s no longer the case.
Sophomore Gracie Harvey scored 13 points and front-court mate Maggie Stover added 13 as the Lady Bobcats made the trek up Miner Mountain to beat Mingo Central 50-36 Thursday night at Mingo.
The Lady Bobcats raced out to a 13-10 lead after a quarter and led by 12 at halftime, never looking back.
In all seven different Lady Bobcats scored with Abby Persinger following Stover and Harvey with eight points.
Battling an ankle injury, Mingo point guard Addie Smith finished with 13 points in the loss.
Summers will begin state tournament play on Wednesday, earning the No. 6 seed and with it a date with No. 3 St. Marys. The game will tip at 11:15 a.m.
