WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Carlton Parley Musick, Jr., 45, of Glen Daniel, pleaded guilty on January 28, 2025, to grand larceny and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The case stems from a May 20, 2024, investigation by Trooper P.M. Browning of the Jesse State Police Detachment into a break-in and theft at the K2 Preparation Plant in the Burke Mountain area of Wyoming County.
Authorities determined that significant property damage had occurred and a large amount of cable had been stolen.
Later that same day, Sergeant L. Anthony of the Lester Police Department in Raleigh County conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle carrying a substantial amount of copper cable that had been stripped or burned, likely for scrap sale.
Trooper H.L. Harvey of the Beckley State Police Detachment responded to the scene and seized the cable.
Trooper Browning identified Musick as a suspect and, after interviewing him, placed him under arrest for his role in the crime.
“This is a good example of both inter-agency and intra-agency cooperation among law enforcement,” said Wyoming County Prosecutor Gregory Bishop.
“The cooperation between the Lester Police Department and the State Police, as well as between the Jesse and Beckley Detachments of the State Police, is impressive. We are fortunate to have such professional law enforcement agencies, officers, and Troopers working every day to protect life and property.”
Derek Laxton, Wyoming County Assistant Prosecutor, served as the lead prosecutor in the case before Wyoming County Circuit Judge Josh Miller.
Bishop extended his gratitude to Laxton, the prosecutorial staff, Trooper Browning, Trooper Harvey, Sergeant Anthony, and all involved law enforcement personnel for their dedicated efforts.
Musick is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
Grand larceny carries a penalty of one to ten years in prison, while conspiracy to commit a felony is punishable by one to five years.
