CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced that West Virginia has signed a letter of intent to join the federal 287(g) program under President Donald Trump’s administration.
The initiative will allow state correctional officers to transport criminal aliens into federal custody without direct supervision from an ICE agent, aiming to accelerate the deportation process.
“West Virginia stands ready to carry out President Trump’s anti-illegal immigration agenda,” said Governor Morrisey. “Today’s actions will ensure that criminal aliens can be expeditiously deported from our country.”
The announcement follows an executive order signed by Morrisey last week, directing state law enforcement to fully cooperate with Trump’s immigration policies.
The order authorizes officers to perform immigration enforcement duties as permitted by law.
Additionally, Morrisey sent a letter to local law enforcement agencies, emphasizing their responsibility to support ICE and comply with the administration’s directives on illegal immigration.
