CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed a proclamation officially designating October 13, 2025, as Columbus Day in West Virginia.
In his announcement, Gov. Morrisey emphasized the state’s recognition of Christopher Columbus’s historic voyage to the “New World” and its role in ushering in an era of exploration that ultimately led to the establishment of European colonies and the founding of the United States.
“Today we reflect on the remarkable vision and boldness of Christopher Columbus that forged a new chapter in human history,” Morrisey said.
“Columbus Day is an opportunity for West Virginians to celebrate the enduring spirit of exploration, determination, and progress that helped shape the foundation of our great nation.”
