RONCEVERTE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man is facing charges after he attacked his wife and dog.
In the early hours of September 15, 2024, Deputy B.P. Walls of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department responded to an active domestic disturbance.
Dispatchers at the Greenbrier EOC reported hearing a male subject assaulting a female over the phone. Ronceverte Police Officer L.R. Kessler, who was closer to the scene, responded to assist.
Upon arrival, Officer Kessler’s cruiser was unable to navigate the steep driveway, forcing him to approach the residence on foot. Corporal Vance and Officer Blankenship of the Lewisburg Police Department also arrived to provide support.
The victim met officers outside and reported that her husband, Robert Carola, was inside the living room and unarmed. Officers entered the home and found Mr. Carola on the couch. He repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, claiming his wife was lying. Mr. Carola was detained and placed in Deputy Walls’ cruiser while further information was gathered.
The victim, visibly shaken, told officers that both she and her husband had been drinking. She reported that Mr. Carola had hit her multiple times, scratched her, and choked her. She showed officers marks on her neck consistent with strangulation. Additionally, she revealed that her husband had broken several items in their home, kicked their dog, choked it, and threw it across the room.
The victim’s statements were recorded on bodycam, and she was advised of her rights to obtain a domestic violence protective order.
Robert Carola was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery, Strangulation, and Animal Cruelty.
