LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Lewisburg man is facing a series of criminal charges after police responded to a disturbance at a downtown business on October 19.
According to the Lewisburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Sweet Shoppe on Washington Street West after reports of a fight.
When officers arrived, they found 36-year-old Nathaniel Maurice Gunn surrounded by several people outside the business.
Police say Gunn was yelling and pushing those around him.
When an officer attempted to detain him to calm the situation, Gunn reportedly became increasingly irate and resisted. Officers noted he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Once Gunn was taken into custody, police spoke with individuals at the scene who reported that Gunn had been removed from the business several times but continued returning.
During one confrontation, he allegedly struck a woman in the face. Another victim told officers that Gunn threw a beer bottle, which struck her in the shoulder.
Police said neither victim wished to press charges for the physical altercations.
However, dispatchers informed officers that Gunn already had outstanding warrants in Greenbrier County for wanton endangerment involving a firearm and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Gunn was transported to the Lewisburg Police Department for processing. Officers reported that a pat-down revealed a small bag of marijuana in his pocket.
During booking, Gunn allegedly continued to act aggressively, refused to comply with instructions and had to be secured to prevent him from leaving the booking area.
After processing, police transported Gunn to Southern Regional Jail. Officers stated he began kicking the vehicle and hitting his head against the window during transport and had to be restrained further.
Gunn is now charged with battery, wanton endangerment involving a firearm, obstructing an officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and public intoxication.
