GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Greenbrier County Schools has announced changes to the 2024-2025 school calendar to account for instructional days lost due to inclement weather.
Under the district’s inclement weather policy, the first five snow days do not need to be made up, and an additional five can be covered with remote learning.
However, this winter has been particularly severe, exceeding those allowances.
A request to the West Virginia Department of Education for additional remote learning days was denied due to state code requirements mandating 180 instructional days.
To comply with these regulations, the Greenbrier County Board of Education has approved the following calendar adjustments:
- April 4: Parent-Teacher Conference Day will now be a regular school day.
- April 21: The Monday after Easter, originally an OS (Outside School Environment) day, will now be a school day. The OS day will be moved to the end of the year.
- April 22: A planned Professional Learning (PL) day will now be a school day with a two-hour early release for a Faculty Senate meeting. The PL day will be moved to June 10.
- June 6: No early release for Faculty Senate.
- June 9: This will now be a school day, with a two-hour early release for Faculty Senate, marking the last day for students.
- June 10: Professional Learning (PL) day for staff only.
- June 11: Curriculum Development (CD) day for staff only.
- June 12: Preparation day for staff only.
- June 13: OS day.
