Greenbrier West head coach Cindy Nutter felt before the high school volleyball season started that her team could make a run at the Class A state championship.
The Cavaliers are now one win away from earning a berth in the big dance and advancing to the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
West moved itself one step closer to that goal Wednesday night by beating Charleston Catholic 3-0 (25-13. 25-11, 25-12) to capture the Region 3, Section 2 championship.
The Irish made its way into the sectional championship game with a 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19) win over Webster County earlier in the night.
By advancing to the championship match, both teams secured spots in Saturday’s regional round which will be played at 6 p.m. at Charleston Catholic.
West will play the Region 3 Section 2 runner-up, while Catholic will battle the sectional champion.
