RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people were taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Randolph County on July 4 that left a guardrail impaled through the windshield of their vehicle.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, deputies L. Elbon and Waldron responded to the area of Harrison Avenue past J.F. Allen for a reported single-vehicle accident.
When deputies arrived, they found a silver Subaru Crosstrek off the roadway in the opposite lane of traffic, teetering on the shoulder with a guardrail protruding through the vehicle’s windshield.
Members of the Elkins Fire Department and the Randolph County Emergency Squad assisted the driver from the vehicle and into an ambulance.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver, a Philippi resident, told deputies she was returning home from Walmart and had felt tired before leaving. She also said she could not remember what happened immediately before the crash and only recalled the impact with the guardrail.
The driver and front-seat passenger were transported to Davis Medical Center for medical evaluation.
Due to the severity of the crash, firefighters used Hurst cutting tools to free the vehicle from the guardrail.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Elkins Fire Department, Randolph EMS and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources for assisting at the scene. The crash occurred in the Crystal Springs area of Randolph County.
